About the Sydney Royal Easter Show

The Easter Show is Australia’s largest annual event, an iconic showcase of Australian culture, heritage and excellence. It combines innovation, heritage, education and entertainment. Every year The Sydney Royal Easter Show attracts around 900,000 visitors.

The Show aims to recognise achievements in agriculture through the various competitions that it organises and promote awareness of rural industries, issues and lifestyles among city Showgoers. It pays tribute to Australia’s agricultural heritage whilst providing a platform for the future.

The Show is also a dynamic entertainment experience for the whole family. Live music, extreme action performances, entertainment, sideshow, food, rides and shopping are all integral components of the Show.

• Around 15,000 competitors display the very best of breeds and livestock, art, food, plants, flowers, fashions and produce as they compete for a prestigious Sydney Royal Blue Ribbon.
• Fascinating demonstrations and hands-on experiences reveal some of the varied facets of rural life to visitors, including cow milking, sheep shearing and working dogs.
• Live music shows bring some of Australia’s hottest talent onstage. Performances also include street and sideshow artists, extreme action, comedy and more for all ages.
• Shopping at the Show provides a one-of-a-kind retail experience. Showbags, gourmet food and wine, home and garden products, hand-made fashions, arts and crafts and health and beauty products feature in a shopping extravaganza with something for everyone.

Green Event

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is a Green Event.

Green Facts:

• 95% (3245 tonnes) of all waste was recycled, reused or turned into Green Power
• 50 tonnes of cardboard, 51 tonnes of drink cans, PET and glass, 77 tonnes of green waste and 7000 litres of cooking oil were recycled
• 64 % of Showgoers used public transport to get to the Show.
• The Show was an Environment Protection Authority’s official Green Date
• 83 % of water used at the Showground was recycled
• 2803 tonnes of bedding was turned into commercial compost
• We offset 1100 tonnes of greenhouse emissions by planting 936 trees in 2009
• Packaging in our food outlets was made from recyclable materials
• Usable fruit and vegetables from the District Courts goes to OZ Harvest
• The Recycled Materials Craft Competition attracted 44 entries
• The Show participated in Earth Hour
• Green Power supplies part of our Agricultural Buildings electricity needs

Recycling

You can help make The Show a cleaner, more environmentally friendly event. There will be colourful recycling stations scattered throughout the ground. A litter free Show helps ensure a pleasant environment for everyone. Find a bin, or take litter with you.
